Blogs, Facebook and Twitter – What’s the point?

So, what is the point.
Business owners often wonder if Social Media is worth their time. Does any of the following sound familiar?
“We created a Facebook and Twitter business profile a while back, tweeted and posted for a while and really did not see the results we were looking for.”
Many businesses think that if they build a social presence then people will come. This is not only wrong but can hurt your business. People aren’t impressed with outdated or shell accounts; they want interaction, information and life. Social Media has the word “Social” in it for a reason. Just showing up to a networking event, grabbing a drink and sitting in the corner will not get you business. You have talk and give people the opportunity to get to know you. Consumers want to work with companies that interact with them. Yes, having Social Networking sites with your business’s name on them will allow people to find you. However, once they do and all they see are vacant rooms of what they thought would be a community, they will be disappointed and move on.
“We started it because we know others are doing it but haven’t kept it up because our client and prospect demographic really do not use social media.”
Reality check… Your clients and prospects are using Facebook and Twitter. It is time to start giving your audience more credit. They are not one-dimensional and they do have likes and interests. Oh yeah, and a lot of their friends check into Facebook on a regular basis and take an interest in their interests. Social Media takes word-of-mouth marketing to the next level.
“Yeah but… Our clients average age is 46 and up… they do not use Facebook or Twitter”
Please, my mother-in-law is 63 and she has more friends on Facebook than I do.
“We are uncomfortable with social media because we are worried our brand will become diluted.”
Even if you are not participating in social media, always remember, people are talking about you. Thus, it can be argued that by not participating your brand is at more risk. We help our clients monitor what is being said about their brand and participate in the conversations, good or bad. When you think about it, what an incredible opportunity to monitor and channel your brand.
“We have a website, why would we need a Facebook or Twitter page?”
Our Clients know from experience that consistently creating relevant and engaging content that’s seeded with keywords will help boost your search ranking and help you get found by prospects. It will also allow you to tell your own brand’s story more richly and consistently than any other kind of marketing or Media.
